I was looking for a good foundation and I found one that everyone recommends! It is the Smashbox face primer. I REALLY want it..but I can’t afford it! I was looking and it said it contains a blend of vitamins A & E, grape seed extract, and green teareduces the appearance of fine lines and pores for visibly softer skin with a velvety-smooth finish. It can be worn alone or under foundation to increase its longevity. I want a primer as close to this as possible. If you can find me one that has close to all of this…and it’sunder 20 dollars! I will love you! LOL No but you will get ten points!

Hey girl, the cheapest primer i could find that everyone raves about is the Rimmel Fix & Perfect Foundation Primer. My friends use it and there skin glows, it does have a tint in it, but it blends nicely. On youtube you can search "Rimmel Fix & Perfect Foundation Primer Reviews" and Im sure you will get tons of videos up there! On a side note is is $7.99 and sometimes when your local drugstore has deals you can even get it at a lower price. They sell it at ulta stores for $7.59 and CVS they sell it the cheapest for $7.29. The ingredients are:

Aqua/Water/Eau; Cyclopentasiloxane; Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate; Propylene Glycol; Phenyl Trimethicone; Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate; Dimethicone; Polyethylene; Talc; Dimethicone PEG-10/15 Crosspolymer; Magnesium Sulfate; Vinyl Dimethicone/Methicone Silsesquioxane Crosspolymer; Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer; Phenoxyethanol; Lauryl PEG-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone; Lecithin; Parfum/Fragrance; Silica Dimethyl Silylate; Methylparaben; Gossypium Herbaceum (Cotton) Powder; Tocopheryl Acetate; Butylparaben; Ethylparaben; Isobutylparaben; Propylparaben; Silica; Dipropylene Glycol; Tocopherol; Triethoxycaprylylsilane; BHT; Hexyl Cinnamal; Limonene; Butylphenyl Methylpropional; Benzyl Salicylate; Linalool; Geraniol; Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone; Citronellol; [May Contain/Peut Contenir +/-: Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Mica (CI 77019), Chromium Oxide Greens (CI 77288), Ultramarines (CI 77007)]

What if I told you clear skin is possible, regardless of your age or the frequency of breakouts that you experience? Here, you can learn about the regimen that I recommend. You may be surprised by some of these suggestions, but believe me, they work.

Nutrition and Other Factors that Contribute to Breakouts

Recent studies have challenged the previously held concept that food or one’s diet does not acne. The cause of acne is not completely understood, but researchers have shown that there is a definition connection between increased breakouts and the consumption of certain foods. So, here’s a short list of common foods to avoid.

1. Rapidly digested carbohydrates; white bread, soft drinks, sweets, “junk food”
2. Dairy products, although you must be sure to get calcium from other sources

Be sure to take a good daily multi-vitamin. Low levels of vitamin A and E have been found in patients suffering from acne.

Soaps, shampoos and other personal care products often contain mineral oil, petrolatum or paraffin wax. These substances clog the pores and cause breakouts. Check the products you are currently using and replace them, if necessary.

Chlorine and other compounds that are present in tap-water can cause acne and blemishes. A good showerhead filter is one of the keys to clear skin.

Daily Cleansing

Dirt does not cause blemishes. That is a common misconception. Black heads are not a result of dirt blocking the pores. The pores have actually been clogged by dead skin cells. Normally, sebum secreted from the sebaceous glands within the pores, carries dead skin cells to the surface, where they are sloughed off. Sometimes this process does not work, as it should, because old built-up sebum or the unnatural oils mentioned above cause a blockage.

It is possible to prevent blemishes by avoiding the compounds mentioned above and washing with warm water to break up the oil. I don’t suggest exfoliating, because it causes inflammation. Inflammation is one of the factors that contribute to blemishes.

Bacteria in the pores are another contributing factor. But, most antibacterial soaps contain triclosan, which can also contribute to breakouts. For clear skin, the best choice is a natural anti-bacterial cleanser like manuka honey bars or tea tree oil.

Followed by a Non-Comedogenic Moisturizer

Non-comedogenic means something that does not clog the pores. You want to use a moisturizer for clear skin because your cleanser can cause excessive dryness, which causes premature aging. The best choices are moisturizers that contain all natural ingredients like vitamin E, grape seed oil and maracuja, a kind of passion fruit extract that balances sebum production, preventing the skin from becoming too dry or too oily.

Combined With an Occasional Deep Cleansing Mask

Make no mistake about it. A deep cleansing mask can be highly beneficial, as long as it contains the right ingredients. The ones that dry up on your face can further clog your pores. The ingredients to look for include the clay extracts kaolin and bentone gel. They absorb excessive oils and unclog the pores. They should be combined with ingredients such as macadamia oil, which prevents the clay from drying out. If you follow these suggestions for clear skin, I am sure that you will see a noticeable difference in a very short time.

I am allergic to many fresh foods thus I found a nutritional supplement that may help me that contains phytonutriants.HOWEVER, although I know they are not Essential to the human body…I want to know if there is enough in the pill to be beneficial. Does anyone have a place to direct me to find out? here are some examples shown on the label:
Dried Kale 37.5 mg
Oregano extract, basal extract, cranberry extract, rosemary extract, grape skin extract all 25 mg
Where can I find the golden number that its worth spending more to take?
I have already found what brand i want to get. I can get one with just vitamins. I want to know how much phytomutriant is needed to be beneficial to make sure I am not buying a more expensive product for a placebo effect.

Homemade organic body scrubs are just one of the many ways you can treat yourself to excellent skin care without spa prices. With these scrubs, not only will your skin be cleansed and exfoliated, but regular use improves circulation and pulls toxins from the skin.

In the following 7 recipes, it is important to use organic ingredients so that you are not absorbing other toxins through the skin. Most ingredients can be found in health food stores and are readily available online. ALL of these scrubs should be used in the bath or shower and should be followed by patting your skin dry and applying an organic moisturizer for overall skin care.

Awesome Dry Skin Scrub

This mixture should be made up and stored in a quarter sized airtight container (Mason Jars are great) for easy use when you want it. You will just need to take about 3/4 cup and mix with enough distilled water to make a paste when you are ready to use it in the shower, gently rubbing over your body.

Ingredients

tablespoons organic almond meal
4 cups organic chickpea flour
2 cups organic dry milk powder
1 1/2 teaspoons rose essential oil (essential oils can be found in health food stores and on the internet, just be sure that they are produced from organically produced base plants)

Apple fresh Body Scrub

This organic skin scrub should be made up at least 10 hours before use, but not longer than 1 week. Two applications are made with this recipe, allowing you to use one soon and one at the end of the week. In a large, microwave safe bowl, warm the cream (10 to 20 seconds). Add ingredients in the following order and stir with each one added: apple juice, honey, oats, tapioca, Epsom Salt, lavender oil, and lemon peel oil. Pour into airtight container and refrigerate for at least 10 hours before first use.

Ingredients
2 cup Epsom salts
1/2 cup freshly juiced organic apple juice
1 teaspoon organic lavender essential oil
1/2 teaspoon organic lemon peel essential oil
2 tablespoons organic honey
1/2 cup organic tapioca pearls
1/4 cup organic whole rolled oats, crush slightly by pounding while in a zippered storage bag
3/4 cup organic whipping cream

Invigorating Renewal Scrub

This scrub is revitalizing for both your skin and your energy level. The recipe makes enough for two applications and should be used within 10 days of creation. Mix all ingredients well and store in refrigerator.

Ingredients
2 cups organic chopped oats
Organic essential oils: 4 drops peppermint, 3 drops eucalyptus
2/3 cup organic moisturizer (our homemade milk lotions are great for this)
2 cups Epsom Salt

Lemony Sweet Brown Sugar Scrub

This scrub should be mixed just prior to use because the sugar crystals break down too quickly for later use. It is from these crystals that you get the exfoliating properties.

Ingredients
1/2 cup organic brown sugar
1 1/2 cups organic grape seed oil
1/2 cup organic grated lemon peel

Lemon Fresh Body Scrub

Lemon juice is the major attraction in this recipe as it not only rejuvenates the skin; it detoxifies it. Like all sugar recipes, these ingredients should be mixed just prior to use because the sugar crystals will break down quickly.

Ingredients
3/4 cup organic sugar
Fresh juice from 1 organic lemon
1 1/2 cups organic olive oil

Creamy Orange Body Scrub

This is another sugar recipe, so remember to mix all ingredients just before use and do not attempt to store it. The use of cream in this recipe is a great moisture help, so enjoy! Massage this mixture onto your body and allow to sit for about 15 minutes before you shower. It works best when applied in a steamy bathroom.

Ingredients
Organic essential oils: 8 drops orange and 2 drops jojoba
3 tablespoons heavy organic cream
3/4 cup sugar

Tutti Frutti Body Scrub

This is an excellent summer scrub for combating those drying effects of the sun. Due to preservation issues and the fact that the Epsom Salt will dissolve quickly, you should mix this just prior to use. Apply prior to turning shower on, but while standing in the bathtub. Massage over body thoroughly, preferably with a body puff, then rinse in warm shower. This works as a cleanser, so you will not need to cleanse your body after using this scrub.

1 1/2 teaspoons pure organic vanilla extract
3 tablespoons organic vegetable oil
2 teaspoons organic vitamin E oil

Ingredients
1/2 cup Aloe Vera pulp (taken directly from plant)
3 teaspoons Epsom Salt
1/4 cup organic facial cleanser
1 peeled guava (put through food processor or mashed if soft enough)
1 peeled kiwi (mashed)

Tutti Frutti Body Scrub

This is an excellent summer scrub for combating those drying effects of the sun. Due to preservation issues and the fact that the Epsom Salt will dissolve quickly, you should mix this just prior to use. Apply prior to turning shower on, but while standing in the bathtub.

I don’t know a thing about you, but I’ll bet that finding the best natural skin care brand can be tough. If you believe the advertising and the company claims, all of the natural skin care lines are great. But, when you do a little digging, you see that most of them don’t live up to their names or their claims.

There are some good products out there, but many of them contain some “unexpected” ingredients. Artificial preservatives are some of the most common. The best natural skin care brand contains oils that are cold-pressed, so that the essential fatty acids and vitamins can be used by the skin’s cells. The only preservatives that are necessary for cold-pressed oils are natural vitamin E and grape seed extract, which provide additional benefits for the skin’s health.

In numerous studies, vitamin E has been shown to reverse the affects that age has on our faces. It reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and is believed to prevent the appearance of age spots. Synthetic versions of the vitamin are less expensive, but they are not effective.

You wouldn’t think that natural skin care lines would include anything synthetic, but it’s hard to tell, unless you carefully read the ingredients label. Alpha-tocopherol is the most effective and safest form of vitamin E.

Most natural skin care lines include added fragrances. In many cases, the fragrance is not naturally occurring, but distilled and concentrated. Concentrated plant fragrances are common causes of allergic reactions. Depending on the plant they are derived from, they can cause you to “feel” moody, irritable, depressed or tired.

The best natural skin care brand is free of added fragrances. The products have a light scent, due to the botanical extracts that are included in them.

One of the ingredients that I’ve often seen listed in anti-aging natural skin care lines is urea. Urea is an animal or plant waste product. It can cause burning and irritation. It is supposed to smooth and soften, but there are better, safer ingredients that really have that effect.

One of them is Shea Butter. The best natural skin care brand has a night-cream that includes a cold-pressed high grade of Shea butter. It is derived from the nut of a tree that is native to the continent of Africa, commonly referred to as the “Tree of Life”.

The butter is a pharmaceutical staple in many African nations, because of its “healing fraction”. But, most of the creams containing Shea butter have used harsh chemicals and high heats during the manufacturing process. So, the healing fraction is lost.

In its naturally occurring form, Shea butter has been shown to soften and smooth out wrinkles. It is very similar to the skin’s own sebum, which makes it an effective moisturizer.

Now that you know this, it should be a little easier for you to evaluate the natural skin care lines on the market. Once you have found the best natural skin care brand and start to use it, I think you’ll be surprised at the compliments you receive. I know I was.

I personally was enraged after reading about this. It seems that dry skin lotion might be bad for a woman’s health. Recent studies have shown that many of them contain estrogens, which can penetrate the skin, enter the blood stream and stimulate the growth of “estrogen-sensitive” breast cancer cells. This is not really news to some of us, but it might be to you.

The reporter that I watched seemed genuinely surprised by the whole thing. So, I thought that maybe a lot of women never thought about where lotions, and the ingredients that they contain, end up.

The skin is a living organ. Oils, waste products, air and water (in the form of perspiration) pass out of it, through the pores. Chemical substances pass through it and enter the blood stream.

You have probably seen dermal patches for delivering a regular dosage of a drug. It was difficult, at first, for drug companies to come up with a system that would allow the drugs to pass through the epidermis, in large enough doses to be effective. Some of them are combined with alcohol, which makes the skin more permeable. Some molecules, such as insulin, are too large to pass through, but estrogen molecules are not.

Almost every dry skin lotion on the market contains one or more types of alcohol, which makes the epidermis more permeable. They are meant to be applied and left on, which gives them plenty of time to penetrate. So, you really don’t want your lotions to contain anything that you would be afraid to eat.

You probably will not see estrogen listed as an ingredient, unless it is a cream that is specifically designed to relieve menopausal symptoms, but you will see placenta and amniotic fluid listed. Both of those contain estrogen and other hormones. In some cases, you will see estradiol listed, which is simply a different form of estrogen. But, there’s another problem.

There are many ingredients in dry skin lotion that “act” like hormones, when they get inside the human body. Parabens, for example, are artificial preservatives that have been shown to have estrogenic effects and they have been found in breast cancer tumors.

The safest choice is to shop for all-natural skincare products that are free of artificial preservatives and added fragrances. Fragrance ingredients are a relative mind field. There are thousands of different chemicals used to create them and many of them are carcinogens.

If you want the most effective dry skin lotion, look for an ingredient called SYNERGY TK. It contains proteins extracted from sheep’s wool that are very similar to the skin’s own protein complexes. In studies, using human volunteers, it has been shown to improve moisture by over 20% and improve the skin’s ability to retain that moisture. There’s nothing else quite like it.

Bottom line, other ingredients are also beneficial including grape seed oil and passion fruit extract. You see, there are safe and effective natural alternatives. You don’t have to buy a dry skin lotion that is hazardous to your health. You have choices.

I was given a little tub of Ink Fixx All Natural Tattoo Ointment to put on my tattoo, along with a tattoo lotion from the same company. I use the ointment for the first 3-5 day, correct? And then the lotion after that, even when healing is done?

Also, the label says to apply 4-5 times daily? Isn’t that a bit too much? I thought you weren’t supposed to put it on too much or it won’t allow the skin to breathe. The ointment contains Soybean oil, Bees wax, Cocoa Butter, Grape Seed extract…..

a link to the company who makes the product is here –> http://www.inkfixxtattoosupplies.com/

I also have Aquaphor, would it be better to use that than the Ink Fixx? And, if I remember right from my last tats, the ointment/aquaphor type stuff is only used the first few days, then just use tattoo safe lotion to keep it moist, correct?

Thanks guys!

my tat (for my son) —> http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f115/rockrchic619/SDC13345.jpg

Nice tattoo. You have to lotion like crazy because if it dries and starts to peel ink might come off (a little ink does come off but thats normal.)

You might disagree, but hear me out on this. My readers often have questions about the recommended vitamins for healthy hair and skin. Here’s what I tell them. To have the best looking hair and the healthiest skin, you need all of the basic, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, essential fatty acids, protein and carbohydrates. And, when it comes to the skin’s health, you need a good skincare routine.

When a person is deficient in any nutrient, it shows. The symptoms may be dark circles under the eyes, blemishes, uneven pigmentation, paleness or a specific skin condition like eczema or psoriasis. The hair may look dull and lifeless, instead of shiny and richly colored.

The cosmetic companies have allowed us to cover up these signs of nutritional deficiencies with makeup and hair coloring. Those things should only be necessary to highlight our features, emphasize the color of the eyes or the fullness of the lips. We should need them to conceal an underlying health problem.

Are there specific vitamins for healthy hair and skin? An excellent daily nutritional supplement provides everything that you need. The average ones that you see on store shelves are not of the highest quality. Most of them contain synthetic vitamin E, which regardless of what the manufacturer’s say, I cannot believe that a compound derived from crude oil is actually beneficial for a person’s health.

Once you find the best nutritional supplement, you should focus on getting rid of the toxic personal care products that you are using every day. Your shampoo and body wash, as well as the cosmetics that you use should be as natural as possible. Ingredients like petrolatum and mineral oil are also derived from crude oil. These substances clog your pores and are often contaminated with hazardous compounds, many of which cause cancer.

A mild all-natural cleanser is just as important as vitamins for healthy hair and skin. And, after cleansing your face, you should be using a nourishing moisturizer, both day and night.

Many people feel that their skin is too oily and that there is no need to use a moisturizer, but when you clean your face, the solution removes natural oils. If you don’t use a balancing moisturizer, the sebaceous glands will secrete even more oils to try to compensate. The moisturizer that I recommend contains grape seed oil, passion fruit extract, coenzyme Q10, natural vitamin E, kelp extracts and protein.

These ingredients contain many of the nutrients and vitamins for healthy hair and skin. Maracuja passion fruit extract helps to regulate sebum production, so that your skin will not be too oily or too dry. Coenzyme Q10 and natural vitamin E must be properly prepared or they cannot be used by the skin’s cells to protect them from free radicals and oxidation.

Do yourself a favor, to help maintain the health of the hair, scalp and the body, I recommend a showerhead filter for those people that have chlorine in their water supply. There are many other things that you can do, as well. These are just the basics of vitamins for healthy hair and skin. There’s always more to learn.
