Is the health benefits from red wine solely from the the skin of red grapes?
Posted by: | Commentsor are some of the benefits derived from the alcohol? because as far as l am aware alcohol only has negative effects on body, except maybe making you a little bit more relaxed for those of a nervous disposition
ie, is there any health benefit to the alcohol content? or we better off just eating red grapes?
Really a technical question (for which the Internet will provide detailed and technical Answers); followed by an observation. But hang on, I`m on YOUR side – certainly as far as almost anything will do some people some good.
I had always understood that the benefits of red wine had been attributed to TOXINS therein -what do I know? other than that my doctor recommended the stuff after my heart attack- but, in truth, the various do`s and don`t we are given these days are seemingly based on various studies of various groups of people, usually with some pre-existing `condition` which was the reason the group was studied in the first place. On a practical level, almost all such recommendations to-day seem to contradict an earlier finding anyway; so ultimately, you pays your money and you takes your pick.
MY doctor, incidentally, more recently advised that, perhaps marginally less so than red, but even white wine -IN MODERATION- was `good`. All I know is that, an ex-pat British citizen, now living in Portugal, I`ve had far more exposure, access and ingestion of wine in the past six years than the previous sixty, and I don`t feel ANY worse for it.
Do your thing; and enjoy.
Many Health Benefits of Pomegranate

If you are looking for a food rich with antioxidants, then pomegranate could be your fruit. Recently, the health benefits of pomegranate juice have been shown to be related to cardiovascular health as it can lower both cholesterol and blood pressure. Indeed, pomegranate juice looks to have a positive affect on artery health along with the cardiovascular system.
My brother ,who has suffered from high cholesterol and high blood pressure for numerous years now had found of these great benefits and decided to start drinking some pomegranate juice. Every day, he drank a 8oz glass of pure pomegranate juice. On his next doctor visit, his blood pressure was down 6 points and his cholesterol was down too! The nurse was rather surprised but stated that other patients had remarked the juice and their blood pressure and cholesterol had been lower as well.
Pomegranates are loaded with tannins, anthocyanins, polyphenolics and antioxidant vitamins A, E and C – all of which can have a healthy affect on your body. These components work together to benefit your arteries plus keep your cardiovascular system healthy which is the chief health benefit of pomegranate juice. If you’ve read in the news that green tea and red wine work wonders for your health then you’ll be happy to discover that pomegranate juice is said to have 3 times the amount of antioxidants that either one of those contain.
Cholesterol can go through shifts which make it unhealthy because of to free radicals and antioxidants can help counteract the free radicals potentially averting harm. This is what contributes to atherosclerosis. Pomegranate juice can reduce the amount of LDL in your blood and also cut the oxidation in half based on a recent report from the Rambam Medical Center. This wonderful juice has also been found to step-up levels of nitric oxide, improve blood flow to the heart, reduce arterial plaque, reduce systolic blood pressure and help with erectile dysfunction. Other benefits may include preventing premature againg, stroke, arthritis, Alzheimer’s and possibly even cancer.
Like with any other product, the type of pomegranate juice you drink will refer directly to its health benefits. You can always merely purchase the whole pomegranates, but they are particularly hard to handle and consuming enough could be very challenging. Choosing 100% juice is or a supplement is best – my brother drinks juice with no additives and no sugar added and it appears to be working good for him!

What are REALLY the health benefits of red wine?
Posted by: | CommentsCan you tell me exactly what makes red wine so beneficial and how does it work?
Red wine contains a "phytochemical" which is very healthy. All plants contain "phytochemicals". It just so happens that a study was done on red wine to asses the health benefits. This story was hyped up in the media to make it sound like red wine was "healthy".
The very same phytochemical found in red wine is also found in grape juice (and at a higher concentration). These phytochemicals act as anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidants remove free radicals from cells. Free radicals cause cancer.
Red wine in low doses can be healthy. The alcohol found in red wine is NOT healthy…. although some scientists think that very small amounts of alcohol are beneficial for your heart.
According to current medical research, men should drink no more than two 4 oz glasses of wine per day. Women should drink no more than one 4 oz glass of wine per day.
Any nutritionist will tell you to eat a mainly plant based diet. It should be a low-fat, whole-foods, balanced diet. When you eat this way, you get plenty of these phyochemicals into your system from the plants you eat. Its not that red wine has health benefits…. its just that red wine could be part of a healthy diet and lifestyle… if it is taken in moderation. But just drinking it by itself without regard to the other food you are consuming is not a healthy way to eat.
You should also know that there are hundreds of these phytochemiclas. Scientists don’t know the function of all of them and new ones are being discovered all the time. When you see "health claims" being touted in the media, take it with a grain of salt. I know some alcoholics who think that the red wine they get drunk off of every night is doing them a lot of good… when it clearly isn’t.
