Have you heard the terms scoliosis or osteoporosis? Maybe yes, because these are the most common diseases that adults suffer nowadays. These are due to lack of calcium, which is the one who makes our bones strong.

Fish oils and Calcium?
I’m recovering from a long stay in hospital that included a blood infection, traumatic and premature labour and many week of antibiotic shots. To help me get my enegry levels back up I’m taking a multi vitamin, fish oils and a calcium supplement. The calcium is important as there are a lot of female relatives with bone problems. When should I take these pills? I’ve also heard that fish oils and calcium shouldn’t be taken at the same time. Is this true? What are the side effects of this? Also, I do eat a healthy balanced diet but where I live the veg and fruit is all seasonal e.g no oranges in summer etc.

The best time to take any vitamins is after breakfast. At least that is what i have found! you don’t want to take vitamins on an empty stomach and if you take them at breakfast they have all day while you’re running around to release into the body rather than doing so while you are asleep and stationary.

The fish oil is great for your heart and calcium is good for your bones but what they have found lately is a lot of people who get enough calcium still have brittle bones so now they say we don’t get enough vitamin D which is needed to properly utilize the calcium. So, I would add Vitamin D as well.

i personally take calcium after ovulation because levels drop rapidly. i know you’ve just had a baby so perhaps you could start by building your levels up now. the body is depleted seriously of vitamins and minerals following childbirth.
i would take a good multi with iron, take your fish oils but don’t take it with tea or coffee. I would also take red clover to help balance your hormones, but don’t take tea or coffee half an hour either side.
eat as many fruit and veg as possible and i would recommend vegetable juices to get as many nutrients into your body as you can.

You can take Fish Oil and Calcium together, they don’t interfere with each other. Calcium is absorbed in the stomach and the Fish Oil is absorbed hours later in the liver. There is no best time to take them. If you can’t get Fresh Oranges (Vit C) substitutes are: Honeydew, Cantaloupe. Strawberries, Blueberries, Papaya, Kale, Brussel Sprouts, Peppers, Broccoli, Spinach, Lima Beans, Cabbage and Tomatoes and Parsley.
